Posted 3 years agoHi all! I've just gained access to Old Game Mags and I love what I'm finding! There is so much stuff, however, that my head spins, so I'll ask for help from the community.
First things first: I am doing research in franchising and I'm looking for interviews with any of the devs/producers/anyone who worked on the first Harry Potter games (the ones adapted from the movies, basically). It's a long shot, but if anyone remembers seeing anything of the sort anywhere please give me a shout!
Since it's very unlikely anyone will have the info above, I wonder: is there a way to find mags by date? It looks to me as if there isn't a lot of metadata in the uploads, but I'm asking just in case I'm missing something.
Any other tips you may have to make my research a bit more manageable (basically looking for everything ever written between 2001 and 2011... not great), please shoot them my way!
TIA,
Val

Posted 3 years agoHello. I have more than two dozen articles about Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets. I don't know whether it's what you're looking for: these articles are previews, reviews, features etc. There may be an interview with the developers there somewhere, but I'm not sure if that's the case. I may give you a download link if you want to take a look.
As for the second question (how to navigate the site and find the magazines you want): first, if you're looking for articles about specific game platforms, there is a "Download Categories" page that can help with that: http://www.oldgamemags.net/viewpage.php?page_id=13
Regarding the first two Harry Potter games: most of the articles about them were published between June 2001 and February 2003. Their Wikipedia pages list the game platforms those games were released on:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Potter_and_the_Philosopher%27s_Stone_(video_game)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Potter_and_the_Chamber_of_Secrets_(video_game)
After checking which platforms you want to focus on, you should use the "Download Categories" page http://www.oldgamemags.net/viewpage.php?page_id=13 to find magazines about them. Keep in mind that there are also multiplatform magazines like Electronic Gaming Monthly which publish articles about various game platforms. For example, there were 3 reviews for the Chamber of Secrets in the December 2002 issue of EGM.
To find out which of the magazine issues were published in 2001-2003 (if you are after the first two Harry Potter games specifically), you can use the database on Retromags: https://www.retromags.com/magazines/ So you can check which of the issues of a particular magazine were published in that time frame (2001-2003) using the Retromags database, and then download them either here or on Retromags.
As for my collection of publications about Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets, it mostly contains articles extracted from PC, Xbox & PlayStation mags. To find additional articles about the GameCube and GBA ports, you should use this page: http://oldgamemags.net/viewpage.php?page_id=20 ; then you can download the issues published in 2001-2003, and check them one by one for articles about Harry Potter games.
One of the members of this site (andynick) maintains a magazine database called "Magazines from the Past". There is some information about Harry Potter games there:

Posted 3 years agoHi Jabba & thank you for this! The tip about cross-referencing with retromags is an excellent one, I'll try that.
And yes please, if you wouldn't mind sharing what you have about the HP games I'd be really grateful be given access to it!
I'm looking for material on all the games, by the way, from Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone to Deathly Hallows pt. II + Quidditch world cup. Even the Lego games! I wrote "first" games to distinguish them from the new wave of mobile games and Hogwarts Legacy And I'll look at all platforms, too! I just need to get a general idea of how devs were talking about the games at the time. Anything could be useful
