Posted 4 years ago@majinzeroth - Apart from the Lucasarts and Sierra classics I also enjoyed the Broken Sword games (until they went 3D), and Beneath a Steel Sky.
Those are both from Revolution Software, which is British. I guess it's cheating, but when I'm talking about "European graphic adventures," I'm generally excluding the UK from that list. Perhaps "graphic adventures whose native language isn't English" would be a better classification.

Ah ok, that would make more sense yeah as I've played quite a few decent graphic adventure from British developers. Apart from the Revolution Software games I've already mentioned the Discworld series was also enjoyable. Psygnosis and Virgin also put out a few passable point & click adventure games if I remember correctly. About the only non-UK or USA-created graphic adventures I can remember playing were from Infogrames who made Shadow of the Comet. I know the Runaway series was made by a Spanish company but despite owning the discs I never got round to playing them.

Posted 4 years ago@kitsunebi Actually, I agree. But what can compare to the Lucasarts and Sierra classics?
I wanted to say Lure of the Temptress, but turns out that was Revolution Software too.
Nowadays, maybe Primordia or the Blackwell series? But also American...

@Kiwi - Another veritable monster of an issue arrives in time for the weekend with the 450+ page PC Gamer (USA) issue 43 now available. Thank goodness I only have a couple more issues of this size still to scan!!
Thanks so much for these beastly PC Gamer USA issues! I had a bunch of these earlier issues when I was younger, but had to give them away to make space for other things, so it's a real treat to be able to read them digitally now.

Posted 4 years agoFamily Computer Magazine issue 87 is now available to download. Unlike many issues of Japanese mags full of games that never made it out of Japan, this issue is packed full of interesting stuff Western gamers have heard of...Final Fantasy III, Dragon Quest IV, Ys II, Double Dragon II, Abadox, Castlevania Adventure... And hell, even the Japanese exclusives are interesting, including a Dragon Ball game, a game starring a celebrity who would later become a convicted sex offender, and an incredibly racist RPG from Squaresoft that should have gotten people fired but instead probably didn't even raise an eyebrow in Japan (the text kindly points out that Jim's "distinguishing characteristic" is his big lips, just in case you couldn't tell from the artwork...jfc...)

Posted 4 years agoWhere are all of these non-donated PC Gamers coming from? I thought you famously burned your collection of them years ago? Not that I'm complaining.
KiwiSuper Admin
Posted 4 years agoThese were donated by someone I cannot for the life of me remember who about 8 years ago except he wouldn't ship them to New Zealand so I had to get them sent to my brother in DC. There they languished until he sent me a box a couple of years ago then he brought the rest out in luggage when he came over on holiday just before COVID-19 hit.
Due to the size and the ridiculous amount of pages slipping on the fi-5650c I put them on the shelf until I got the IX1600 which is not having the misfeed problems so they are back on the table as far as scanning them is concerned.
I think I might have approximately 40 issues here awaiting scanning dating from 1997 - 2001

Posted 4 years ago@larare - Hey!! What's wrong with Cruise for a Corpse, or the Gobliiins series?
@majinzeroth - Apart from the Lucasarts and Sierra classics I also enjoyed the Broken Sword games (until they went 3D), and Beneath a Steel Sky.
Lost Eden was an amazing experience as well. I still need to get around to playing The Longest Journey, that's supposed to be great. Interestingly most point and click adventure games today are from European studios.
including a Dragon Ball game, a game starring a celebrity who would later become a convicted sex offender
Btw, my best friend is very much on the autistic spectrum and while he may have slight difficulties with certain things, he has excellent reading comprehension.

Posted 4 years agoI noticed you guys were talking about point n' click adventure games & the first game that came to mind for me was Blazing Dragons which, i think, was based on Monty Python.
Thank you everyone for all of the uploads. Much appreciated.

Posted 4 years agoIf people want to talk about adventure games or anything OTHER than the latest releases please take it off to another thread and leave this for just that. Going on and on about medical issues, or anything else for that matter, is just detouring away from what this thread was created for.
