Computer Gaming World issue 221 is now available. This was a crapfest of an issue with the worst skewing since, well, the last time I had a shitty skewed magazine to scan. It was so bad a couple of pages still had the printer registration marks on the side of the page. Needless to say it took me way, way longer to straighten everything than actually scan the mag. Yikes!!

Dengeki G's Magazine issue 28 is now available to download. I included the supplement at the back of the mag rather than uploading it separately as I usually do, since it's just a bunch of design artwork for an anime series not even related to games so far as I know.

Another Computer Games issue hits the newsstand with issue 171 getting the scanning treatment. I'm loving the IX1600 and by default that means you are all loving it too!! Grin

PC Gamer (USA) issue 83 is now available. This issue was missing pages 91-94 unfortunately. If anyone has the ability to scan and provide to complete the issue let me know. This issue was a bit beat up on the cover so please excuse the quality of that.

Official PlayStation Magazine (US) issue 097 is now available. Why oh why do publishers throw big friggin' ugly stickers on the front of their mags? Pfft

I really doubt that's a sticker from the publisher. Looks like a freebie mag with a promotional sticker applied by whoever the heck Digitallife is. Obviously distributed somewhere in the vicinity of New York. Putting a sticker for an NYC-based event on every copy of a nationally distributed mag in a country the size of America would be insanity.

Still sucks ass though right? I've had these and the glue some of them used was literally like "You're NEVER gonna get me off this cover EVER so there!!" superglue ....

It's a promotional sticker - getting it off would defeat the point! Like I said, whoever put the sticker there probably gave the mag away for free (like a mag I scanned once with an E3 sticker on it), so why would they pay out of their own pocket to slap an ad on the cover if it could be removed? I'm sure they used the stickiest glue they could find. Grin

I have had success in the past using lighter fluid to take off stickers without damaging the magazine or box.

The trick isn't getting the sticker off - heat alone will usually do that - it's removing all traces of adhesive left behind so that the page is safe to feed through your scanner. I use a product called Goo Gone to remove glue left by address labels and the like from US mags. Luckily, I've never seen a Japanese mag with a sticker on the cover.

I don't know what type of glue they used on this one but it's bonded very strongly, it wasn't going to come off Smile

Today we have the Traitors Gate 2 Solution Guide added to the Game Guides section. These small booklets feed nicely through the IX1600 in "Manual" mode allowing me to NOT have to cut the booklet in half and the software automatically separates the pages. Brilliant!! Smile

PC Gamer (USA) issue 084 gets the scanning treatment next. The cover on this one was bad probably due to taping a disc to the front? Oh well, I gave Max Payne the proverbial black wash as I think the cover probably looked like back in the day....

We finish the weekend off, as far as my scanning is concerned anyway, with the Dracula Resurrection Strategy & Solution Guide

PC Gamer CD-Roms at that time came in cardboard sleeves which were packaged loose along with the magazine inside clear polybags. Not sure what kind of damage you were looking at, but it wasn't from the disc.

@kitsunebi - Hmm...even so. The 285 pg mag I just put out was 300ppi and only 577MB, so I wouldn't think that a mag less than twice the length in pages would be three times the filesize unless saved at larger than 300ppi. Maybe the quality level was set too high? Running the files through a batch process in Photoshop simply re-saving them (as-is) at quality level 8 or 9 should solve the problem.
I love using Scan2PDF. It's lovely. Grin

Not sure what it was like in America but I know in the UK CD-Roms either came in jewel cases stuck to the mags or came in clear plastic sleeves again stuck to the mags.
